My suggestion would be to not buy a z24. If I was looking for something to tune up and have some cheap fun I would look into a Srt-4 or cobalt. If you did really want a z24 I would buy between 2000-2002 if you were interested in boosting the car because the 2 bar os is so easy to work with and tune.
But honestly by the time you have a Turbo on it you might as well have bought an Srt-4 and be enjoying the LSD and better seats.

I was 23 and it was the car I owned at the time. I'll say it's not an amazing car or anything, but man the looks you get when you hit it and it takes off!

Nope, it is a twin cam LD9. It has the 2.3 HO intake manifold though.

It's about the same as an SRT, the 7200 rev limit really makes things a little better.
For the cavalier swap I did, Wiseco pistons, Eagle pistons, 2.3 Oil pump, 2.3 cams, thats pretty much it.
I think a little more power could have been drawn out if I had went with a better head/cam combo, maybe the E instead of B turbo, and perhaps a little more tuning time.

I did wiseco pistons, eagle rods, and the 2.3 oil pump swap. You can check out j-body.org for more info. It's really easy on the 2000-2002 because of the gm s/c tune and ability to tune with hptuners.
