This song has words in it which come from the poems and writings of St John of The Cross. Dark night of the soul is a metaphor used to describe a phase in a person's spiritual life, marked by a sense of loneliness and desolation. His poem narrates the journey of the soul from its bodily home to its union with God. The journey occurs during the night, which represents the hardships and difficulties the soul meets in detachment from the world and reaching the light of God

True. To elaborate on andrea's post, the song is metaphorical of the darkness and loneliness one endures when spiritually transforming from their familiar corporeal existence to a spiritual existence -- one where she and the divine become one in each other. The sense of forlornness overwhelmes her like the night because she's left behind all that she'd known and been on that lonely quest to meet with her "lover".

Correction, it is the love story and prayer from a Monk to his God.

Oh my, if you actually look at Loreena during the song. You`ll actually see the entire story through her expressions.

What is so unusual about this song, aside from the sheer beauty of the music, is that this is a love story between an individual and GOD. Loreena's adaptataion is nothing less than spectacular. Thank you for such a deeply moving piece.

A Jamieson Thought & Rift: "The Wind, the Spirit within my Hand": "Gently, lovingly the wind, the spirit within my hand, fills my lungs as the breath that gives life to each borne creation brings forth its "light and love" to forever cast away the "Dark Night of each & every Soul".
May it end forever
with Love & Light,
Jamieson (Peter)
Amen.
