James Kalm has known the painter Lori Ellison for years, and has always respected her determination and stick-to-itiveness. Ellison is well regarded for her obsessively detailed pattern drawings, and paintings on panel. After sixteen years living and working within the New York, specifically Williamsburg Brooklyn art scene, the momentum of her career has increased. In fall of 2011 she and husband Lawrence Swan exhibited together at the Valentine Gallery in the burgeoning Bushwick/Ridgewood district, attracting critical and community praise. Despite the many years of engagement, this show at McKenzie Fine Art, represents the artist's solo debut. Includes an interviews with artist Lori Ellison, and an appearance by Jerry Saltz.
I know you've grown to dislike being photographed or videotaped so I'm especially glad you participated in this James Kalm report. This is how I'd like to remember you.

The Rubber meets the Road when you go small, and Lori Ellison can back it up. I see a lot of large scale shit out there that would never make it on a small scale . Don't get fooled.

I'm not sure how to respond to the work. I can see an obsessive interest in pattern and geometry. Thanks James for bringing this to us :)
