  • The Nipa Hut... WOW. That place was crazy. Two of my buddies, drunk of course, jumped off the balcony during the show. One landed on his feet on the stage and started dancing with the girls. The other hit the edge of the stage and fell backwards onto a table. It was a free-for-all when we were there. I know what you mean about the prices going up when the ships come in. We had the same thing happen in Korea on Team Spirit.

  • I think Nipa was the first place I saw some drunk guy "eat the banana" after it had been used, and saw "exact change given" like never before. In pesos, of course.

Well... I guess I can take some of the blame for the Team Spirit prices, but only in 86 and 87. TAD to Pohang, Tague, Chomchon, Yechon and a little bit of Seoul too. Still have a couple of those "mink blankets", and a lot of photos of those deployments. Will eventually scan them and try to make a slideshow to upload.

  • Ahhhhh The PI. Spent some time there. Angeles City and Subic Bay. Had one hell of a good time. Red Horse, Extra Strong Beer. And you can't forget the Balut. The egg with legs.

  • Same here with time spent (along with my money) in Angeles and Subic. I thought Olongapo was really nice, until the 7th Fleet came into port a few days after I got there. Prices went up, and the fun slowed down. So I headed off to Angeles City and had a great time. Crazy McCabes, Nipa Hut, etc...etc.

I never did try the balut, but I did have the filipino "ice cream" (made from yams and cheese) on a bun. Tasted awful. Went to McDonalds, got chocolate ice cream shake. Felt much better.

  • $3.52 for a fifth of Jim Beam on Base. About $75 or more out in town. The good ol' days. And you gotta have the San Miguel's.

  • Can't forget to include the Red Horse beer. Still have an unopened bottle from those days long ago that I picked up while I was deployed to the Phillippines .
