How do I know if I sin because I'm a bad Christian or a non Christian?

Pastor Mark Driscoll answers this question as part of a live "Ask Anything" session in which audience members SMS questions to the pulpit to be answered in real time.

This question was answered in the broader context of a sermon entitled "Faith & Works" which can be found at http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/religionsaves/faith-works

  • The message of the cross is foolishness to those that are perishing.

  • Wow! At 2:40 is key. It is not enough to know the truth. The demons know it, believe it and are afraid of God. But not enough to do right, because they love not the truth. Apparently, he was just a church member and never really made up his mind to follow Christ - just go to church.

  • Jesus is REAL, I know that He is through experience. (Truly, and to be with Jesus is my deepest desire).

Yet I go out, end up sinning, thinking it gives me love, when all it gives me is a headache afterwards. It's really difficult.

  • @suchafool990 Duh! Look it up, its not rocket science to go to the channel & check the titles you lazy person.

  • wtf :S? God just came down and told me to kill some people, should i go ahead and do it? Cos i love God n all that jazz

  • so does Mark ever talk about womens responsibility and duties to men or is it always one sided and geared towards what men should always do for women?

  • 1 John 3:19-24.

At first I read "The message of the cross is foolishness" and I was like what??

Then I read the second half of your sentence. This reminded me to be slow to speak,

    and slow to judge.

  • @cityonahillband going to make mistakes. Maybe character, our temper, some other small things. When I said Christians can't sin I don't mean literally like they will never fall. I mean it is not in our nature. For example, before it was our nature to sin. We were slaved to sin, even if we didn't want to do sin, we ended up doing it because we were enslaved. Now we are enslaved to righteousness, that our new nature. Will we fall sometimes, perhaps, but it's not our nature to live in sin.

  • I agree with Mark but not completly. Before I was a Christian I felt guilt inside, conviction, of not wanting to sin or do things because I knew they were wrong (yet, I didn't have any real Biblical knowledge). Now, I understand that God was leading me to Him. But I don't think just because you feel guilt it means "ok I'm a Christian." By what I read in the Bible, Christians can't sin (per se). I'm talking about deadly sins, fornication etc... However, God's is shaping us in his image and we are
