  • thank you for a very thorough series of videos on how to use a tarp. I think i am becoming a convert. Are forest animals like possums, raccoons, porcupines, etc an issue , in that they may disturb you while sleeping??

  • We dont get anything like that in the UK. Badgers and Deer are all we get that may be an issue, but as long as you dont camp on animal runs they will not come near you.

  • The tarp over the hammock looks like it would slightly reduce the aiflow under the hammock since it comes down below it slightly. It still looks like you would freeze if it was a windy night.

  • I agree, but I thought I would show it as a possibility.

  • goo d video BUT theres no high quality

are you using an older camera?

  • The first videos I uploaded were filmed with the video setting on my stills camera. So that why the quality is not as good. Also I had to recduce the quality to fit the 100mb limit youtube insisted on. Now I know how to upload larger files.

  • One of my favorites. A friend of mine and I thought we made this up about 8-9 years ago... After seeing it so many times on YouTube, I guess not :-) Definitely need a pad under you to stay warm and a hammock with mosquito netting is best. I sleep in a setup like this quite often. Quick and easy. Thanks for all the videos.

  • Daannnngggg! I thought that was Ray Mears on crack! j/k

  • @OhLuckyMan Lol, it should be noted that as annoying and surprising as it is to be awakened by an opossum, raccoon, porcupine, etc. It is worth noting that they are also very tasty if you have the foresight to quickly cudgel them to death and field dress them for breakfast the following day. Course I personally wouldn't fancy being awakened by a curious skunk myself, but then again I usually set up camp a good distance away from the nearest game trail.

  • nice vids, thanks!

  • I love hammocks! One of the best ways to pack.... if you can find two trees...

  • @winstonsmith2600

I got a little self inflating sleeping pad, very light to pack and does wonders in a hammock. I wont sleep on the ground again, and I backpack year round in oregon.

  • @soulstar1963 That's a poly tarp, not the cheaper usual tarp. It costs more because it's better and uses less space. A normal tarp works fine, it's what I use but poly tarps are nice.
