@DMoore6977 Actually no pencils ever contained lead. They have always been made with graphite cores. They are referred to as "lead pencils" because when graphite was discovered (in the 16th century) it was thought to be a form of lead, and was named "lead ore". Most people think pencils used to contain lead because they are too lazy to look it up.

Actually most pencils are made with graphite now instead of lead...people are just too lazy to call it for what it really is.
