@KILLERSkullz1 yepp... the octopus system introduced in 1997 in hk can pretty much do anything now... vending machines, MTR, buses, ferries, mcdonalds, 711s, parking meters, access control, supermarkets, u name it...

@outdevo We have this thing in new zeland called a snapper card it's just like this but you can use it for buses ferries taxis and to buy food in a store :) go NEW ZEALAND!

how do the bus companies in hong kong make money without government funding, while other municipal owned bus companies rely on government funding so much?
-
the time saved boarding is the primary usefullness of ic cards, if the 20 or so people in the vid had to pay cash it would have taken ages.
My local bus company has just introduced a similar system, but hardly anyone uses it yet.

yea but in holland some ppl aren't paying for their ride so they need to put huge ports preventing (not working) them to acces the train etc. while in hong kong low ports are used (you can climb over it without much problems, but still ppl are paying for their ride which is a good thing (Y) )

Is that true? That about the colours?
Very convincing that we are re-inventing the wheel here in the Netherlands with our 'OV-chipkaart' (PT-chipcard) a complete f*cked up system that almost nobody wants.
