This is a widescreen version of one I posted some time back to take advantage of YouTube's new widescreen window.
It's took a fair amount of work to keep as much detail as possible. Clicking on the 'watch in high quality' link under the clip gives the best result, although the movement is less smooth.
I found the illustration on a hand-drawn map of Melton Mowbray dated 1875. It was drawn from sketches taken in 1846 - the year the railway came to Melton.
The artist was obviously no fan of the railway, and drew this to show how picturesque the scene was in the days before steam power; when canal barges were pulled by horse and life was led a more leisurely pace.
I've put more information about the illustration - as well as part of the 1875 map showing where I thing the sketch was drawn from - at www.remember.org.uk/melton-mowbray.
If anyone would like a DVD-quality copy of the video, just leave a message for me in the comments below. Or on the website.
For anyone who enjoyed this clip of old Melton Mowbray, I've just posted a 5-minute video with photos which fade from the old to the present day. It's in widescreen format with the option to view in high quality. YouTube doesn't let you put links here, so simply copy and paste this into the search field to find it: T2PemcEYrSY
