I worked for GEC in Auckland late 80's as consumer products manager looking after Xpelair - we sold every spare part that existed - unlike today when it stops working you throw it away and get a new one, people could make repairs. My parents house had a VN360. We ended up with the mould for the fan blade for the VN360 at Penrose branch - think it got dumped - shame.

I want one of these in my bathroom. Mt Mum had one in her kitchen in the 1980's and 1990's, exactly the same as this. Very quiet and efficient.

I my house I have an Airflow Extractor Fan. It has Delayed Shutter Opening, (and closing). I do not know why it uses Delayed Shutter Opening unless it is to stop the shuters snapping on fingers, do you know why?
I was told that the Delayed Shutter Opening works by heating wax which expands slowly to opens the shutters.

I dont like the shutters on this fan. They make me jump when the shut!

The Xpelair T10 desk fan you mention is a Taurus model as I myself have one of those very models. I cured the knocking on mine when I bought it off Ebay by putting a few drops of oil on the motor shaft behind the blades. It now works a treat and is extremely quiet and has worked brilliantly ever since! :) The Taurus fans I think came out originally in the late 70's and 1980's and I think a few were still produced in the early 90's. Sadly they are no longer being manufactured.

@chrisgranton Yeah. Only weird looking fans now.

@gamwam No. Only the wx12 with the controller is.
When I was young we had an extractor fan called a Fanflo, a cheap 1960's window fan which ended up in the kitchen sink, blew out in a storm in early 1980. It was replaced by an Xpelair GXC6 which is still there today in 2010... 30 years old and still going strong. It was refitted in new glass when windows were replaced a few years back.

@MultiBandWagon Never heard of a "fanflo" sounds an interesting make. Xpelairs were built to last and your's and mine proves that. There was no other fan that had to make it to my kitchen wall when I bourght my house that this model.
