Schwantz, Rainey, and Lawson were the true gladiators of the 500cc class in the late 80's and early 90's - just as Spencer, Roberts, and Sheene were a decade earlier.
Today's riders like Rossi are nothing but gay poseurs, riding machines that are almost impossible to fall off, due to their anti-wheelie, anti-high side traction control, and electronically adjustable suspension.
AND BEFORE any of you bleat about Rossi riding a 500, remember that his also had all the aids

Ya gotta love the "Fuck you " wheelie Rainey puts on Kev at the 1:56 mark. I guess Ed was a little faster than he looked (he always was) when Kevin damn near tossed it trying to keep up.
Todays racing just doesn't hold a candle to the 80's racin.Not that todays racers aren't fast,Rossi,Stoner And "George" Are blindingly quick, but with the 800's having to be ridden like overgrown 250's with electronics,the wheel 2 wheel is gone.

Yea, Kevin is a true hero, his backwheel is spinning free in every corner snd is still så much faster than gardner and rainey.

even the riders agree! its complete bollocks now. hopper said after you hit the apex you just open it wide open the electronics take care of the rest! where is the skill there? this time there really was a ggod ol days!
