@seanmcbride1 It's safe to say that there are no Maharathis left on this planet...I'm sorry I got it wrong there Maharathi can fight 60,000 warriors at one time, Atirathi are the ones that fight 10,000 men...then there is Atimaharathi who is capable of fighting 12 Maharathi's at the same time....then the last one and the greatest Mahamaharathi someone who's capable of fighting 24 Atimaharathi at the same time...nobody has achieved this class of warrior....!!!!

@wackywankavator Haha maybe they become so good at it ...that they can deflect stones or any in coming missile for that matter..I've also heard of a story where a Nepalese man cut off the heads of 100 men in a battle with his khukri(he was surrounded by 100 men)...it's a small blade used by the Gurkhas...according to Indian class of warriors..there's a class called Maharathi .(class according to skill)capable of taking on 10,000 men at one time, there are two more higher classes.

32 men and nobody could find some fist sized rocks? Nothing beats a good stoning. :)

..There was a wonderful scene in an Indian movie...where a man is trying to escape lots of soldiers chasing him and once he's cornered and has no where to go he unleashes "the Urumi" upon them and with devastating effect...I think the movie was called "Utsav"...pretty sexy movie about how Kamasutra was written by Vatsyayan but that's the scene I recall from that movie...!!!!

..It's said in the hands of a master 'Urumi" can help fight against 32 men at one time...!!!!
-
hey this was the exact place on fight quest

I'd be so scared trying to learn to fight with one of those things.

Not every student of 'Kalaripayattu' is given the 'urumi'. It's knowledge is taught only after the pupil has reached the 'spiritual' maturity over mastering it. Which comes after years of practice .( I consider myself decently mature .. but I think I am aeons away from even having the guts to swing it once )
I have been fortunate enough to witness a cola bottle's upper region being sliced off horizontally by this thing ... the demonstration done, u r left with a sense of amazement !!!!.

When you are surrounded by 3-4 or more assailants you can create a deadly circle of sharp whirling steel around you. But they are useless in battle formation as you don't have the room to wield the weapon. In Kalaripayattu, Urumi is taught last, after you have mastered all other weapons. In a skilled hand Urumi can easily behead an enemy, in an unskilled hand it is as easy to behead yourself. In North India this same sword is called 'aara'. Hope this helps.

These weapons are called 'Urumi' or the curled sword or the spring sword. The length is generally 5 to 6 feet. They are excellent as slashing weapons but useless for piercing. Thus they have no point, the top is rounded but both the edges are sharpened. Warriors used to wear them like a belt, over a toughened leather or folded cloth regular belt (otherwise they would cut into the skin). These swords are weapons best suited for personal security.
I love how people comment on weaponry and martial arts styles and they've never practiced a day in their life. Just sayin. XD
