Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home in Camden, north London, at the age of 27, police have confirmed.
Officers were called by the ambulance service to an address in NW1 just after 4pm today.
On arrival, officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene," a police statement said.
Her death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are continuing into the circumstances, it added.
The Back To Black artist had cancelled all tour dates and engagements last month after a series of erratic public appearances.
Her final show was in Belgrade in June where she was jeered by fans after a shambolic performance.
She had appeared briefly on stage with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield on Wednesday night.
She had been troubled by drink and drugs problems throughout her career.
Tributes to the singer have been posted on Twitter. Sarah Brown, the wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown said her death was a "terrible waste of a great talent."
Kelly Osbourne tweeted that she had "just lost 1 of my best friends" and fellow singer Lily Allen said Amy Winehouse's death was "beyond sad."

British singer Amy Winehouse dead north London pop jazz soul drugs fame drink

Singer Amy Winehouse, 27, has been found dead at her north London home.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained.

London Ambulance Service said it had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two vehicles but the woman died.

The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her recent musical career. She pulled out of a comeback tour last month.

Last month, the north Londoner pulled out of the European tour after she was jeered at the first gig in Serbia for appearing too drunk to perform.

For 90 minutes, she mumbled through parts of songs and at times left the stage - leaving her band to fill in.

Winehouse had won widespread acclaim, aged 20, with her 2003 debut album, Frank.

But it was 2006's Back to Black which brought her worldwide stardom, winning five Grammy Awards.

  • I love this song! I've always loved this song, but this is the only Amy Winehouse song I ever knew. I wish I had gotten to know more of her music before she passed. It still seems unreal that she's gone, she was so young. I feel so bad for her family, friends and major fans. R.I.P Amy, you are deeply loved and missed <3
