  • I didn't know how the old movies had so much beautiful music.

  • What a great composer! I think "The Bride of Frankenstein" is my favorite score of his. It is brilliant.

  • I think Benny Herrmann no less said of TARAS BULBA that a score like that is written once is a lifetime.

  • Sunset Blvd. What a great score!!!! Thank you for posting Mr. Waxman's music.

  • @phorsic Yeah I noticed that with Waxman's music too-that why I love them all :D

  • Where is Nostalgia though?! Crime in the streets theme? LOL What a terrific composer; truly one of the greats!

  • And I thought I was "weird" for loving vintage movie theme music! Glad to know that there's a whole slew of us out there!!!!

  • Loved his work in Silver Chalice, possibly the best thing about that movie =P

  • @schaffermatt: You're right in that most of the genres you mention (country, rap, etc.) are plagued with homogeneity. I really don't mean to come off as snobby or anything, but I'm currently studying music composition at conservatory, and I can tell you that most of the Waxman scores use the same chord progressions and idioms (like chromaticism). That doesn't mean they're bad music, though. Just like in any genre of music, there are things that just work well, so they're reused.

  • @phorsic: I have the same problem listening to most country/western, rap, and hip-hop, but I can differentiate between every theme Waxman ever published - weird what the ear picks up on, ain't it?

  • The only trouble with Franz Waxman is that most of these themes sound exactly the same...

  • Oh! What about Herbert Stothart? He was such an excellent composer, but so often overlooked!

  • i love the soundtrack of sunset boulevard, perfect music, perfect film!

  • @ldaccardi good idea! franz waxman is the bomb!

  • keep coming back to this music! love Franz Waxman! Love Peyton Place, sunset blvd., and Rebecca.

  • i painted my whole house listening to taras bulba! got done fast! rebecca is gorgeous, dimitrius and the gladiators is the best

  • Cool job on this! Love soundtracks-:)

  • i love the sunset boulevard theme

  • benydebney thanks so much for posting all these ... one source for so much great film music.

  • aww A Place in the Sun is not here!

  • Nice work!

But I did not notice "Prince Valiant". Swashbuckling music at its best. - thats a must-have-music for every Waxman-Fan. It should be included.

  • wow! I totally agree with you. Im refferring to just the piano medley part not the whole suite.

  • anybody have the sheet music for Lisa? the theme in rear window from the apartment across the courtyard?

  • prolly cause of the crappy mono encode.

  • wonderful. Thank you so much for posting....

  • If you like his haunting music for REBECCA, SUSPICION or THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, you'll have to listen to the new CD release by Varese Sarabonde of his score for MY COUSIN RACHEL ('52) starring Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton. It's gorgeous. Very memorable main theme played in variations throughout and stunning conclusion.
