Can anybody explain why the song "I alussida" (the chain) was banned from "The song of the dead brother" in the first version?

When Mikis rewrote the composition and added some songs in 1979-1980, the song has been recorded in the second version by Dimitris Bassis.

Some songs were banned, because the theme of the composition "the song of the dead brother" was the civil war - a "sensitive" issue for the greek governments.

The songs were added in the version with Dimitris Mpasis, because, according to Mikis Theodorakis, in the 1980, the theatre producer of the composition took the recordings of the new songs, due to some financial disputes!

Also, the song "the chain" speaks about "breaking the chain and the prison"... Many governments didn't like that idea.

I think the song is beautiful but the theater piece of Mikis "The song of the dead brother' is not. Although Mikis tries to unite all at the end of the piece,

The (auto) biography of Mikis and the DVD edited by George Logothetis 'The ballad of the dead brother" tell a very sad story about Greek history which most people in West-Europe don't know. They think that everything was going better in Europe after WOII.

I was very impressed and even a bit chocked after seeing the DVD of Logothetis.

Greek history is full of sad stories and pain and sorrow.

The unique thing about Mikis Theodorakis music is that he can express the greatest pain with the most beatiful music.

But is n't his the character of Greek music: expressing the most terrible things with the most joyful music. The same is in hebrew/Israelian music.

Probably Mikis can it stronger/better because of his biography?

Well said! It is characteristic that in greek fests, the songs with sad content have an important part.

Also, you have right about Mikis' biography: his life gives the extraordinary character in his music.
