@npaujbais Shame it's totally impractical to keep them as pets. They're like mantids of the air and start life out like them underwater. Amazing.

3:40 There's a similar (if not the same) species on Long Island: Erythrodiplex berenice. In my field guide their common name is "Dragonlet" and they're described as the only species of dragonfly in the Western Hemisphere that can survive in salt water during its larval stage. The females have two different (but similarly colored) marking schemes. From what I've seen at the marshes near my house, the spotted females are more common. Amazing animals.

aren't they the fastest flying insects? they have extremely accurate eye sight too. I've seen them swoop down and catch a fly, it's really an awesome sight. up close, these beautiful animals are dazzling with bright transparent colors.
