http://hamradioireland.blogspot.com Anthony (Tony) EI8GHB works the EI7DAR (Dundalk Amateur Radio Society) special event station at Clogherhead to highlight the work of the Clogherhead lifeboat for SOS Radio Week. Here he works a huge pile-up on 20 metres and is calling for number 5 stations.
@AERTANK In this case there is no general discussion. Because we are a special event station, everyone wants to work us, so we just give very quick reports to each station and move on in order to allow everyone a good chance to work us. However normally I would have a chat when making a contact with my own callsign.

@mythicalireland then do you all get into a general discussion or is it just saying hello?

@mythicalireland The callsign being used in this video, EI7DAR, is the club callsign of Dundalk Amateur Radio Society.

QRZ means "who is calling me?" - and 73 is a ham radio way of saying "goodbye".

@AERTANK Basically every amateur has a callsign. Irish callsigns start with EI - Echo India. Poland is SP Sugar Papa, Germany is DJ or DL, Norway is LA etc. Callsigns also have at least one number. Mine is EI8GHB. There were so many calling that I had to take them by number, so here I was calling 5s. When I hear one I give him a report - 59 or something similar, where 5 is the quality of audio rated 1 to 5, and the second number is signal, rated 1 to 9 and then above 9 plus 10 plus 20 db etc.

Anthony any chance of a translation of what is being said and what the they are trying to do? It seems more complicated than ATC?
