@ damanwitoutaname; It's called anti lag. The reason it backfires is because anti lag sends alot of fuel through the injector a little later than normal resulting in combustion in the exhaust causing the turbo to spool faster. You're right though that over time it causes damage.
Your post just bugs me because if anything, the only thing this video proved is that the drivers knew how to do a burnout.

well i have seen fast and slow civics and well the it is up to you on that one aslong as u turn the wrench and dont pay anyone to do it for you i have respect becuz it shows u have the heart and sole to take some POS 40mpg shit and turn it into a car it is called the god factor to take you hands and build something with them nomatter it be a 69morro or a 00 civic si with a dartb20 block and a mazwork head with a topmounted gt4092r turbo

Learn how to burn out fucking dumbass!!! if you have no throttle control use a fucking higher gear. Popping it off the rev limiter like that...he can't shift either...when there are backfires you can see reflecting on the pavement you don't keep hitting the gas...fucking dumbass that car won't last a week...
