Shadow of Your Smile was written by Johnny Mandel for the 1965 film The Sandpiper. This is a classic tune that lends itself well to a bossa nova or a cuban type style. I tried to bring something new to this tune by modifying the chords slightly to give it a bit more of a latin character, but the melody will still fit the chord substitutions. I also played a little bit more guitar like.

I have been playing around with Trilian, a sampled bass instrument. This uses an Acoustic Upright Bass at the bottom and a layered Acoustic Martin Bass for the mid-range and highs. I also use Galaxy Vintage D Steinway sampled piano, which is one of my favorites.

  • @AndrewPetrovFilm Yes, the tune sends me dreaming, I feel like I'm flying out over the edge and see the river glistening under me and the blue, milky sky above and my love a long way behind the mist, in the cradle of his palm, she is sending me a smile through the funnel of time. I wish she could be here, best greeting from Alan, Berlin.

  • Nice playing, but I did not hear Trilian Bass. I use Trilian, and I would definitely know it when I hear it. Especially the Acoustic Bass.

  • @7notemode Is the vintage D layered with the bass? Great playing mate.

  • Are you using basic Midi cables to connect to your computer or a USB cable? Just wondering because I have had a lot of trouble connecting my cp300 via USB to my mac.

  • Beautiful rendition. Very relaxed and controlled, played with strong emotion and conviction. Without watching the video, I can easily be fooled into thinking this is a duet. Your left and right hands have their own strong and separate identities yet work together so well. Great post!

  • Lovely.
