Raising five white leghorn chickens with the goal of obtaining free range organic chicken eggs from our very own backyard. A dream of self-sustainability on this small slice of the American Dream, here on the Oregon Coast. Building a chicken coop and trapping coons'.

  • Yes, the white leghorns laid one egg a day per chicken. The more variety you feed them the better the eggs will taste. Our chickens were fed a diet of all kinds of vegetable scraps and their favorite food by far was spaghetti! They were really delicious tasting eggs with gorgeous colored yolks.

  • In order to determine the sex.. you must simply wait about 4 months. If they are male, you will definitely be able to see their physical characteristics & then they'll start to crow around 5 months.
