It's a great film. On the dvd the director's commentary does fill in somewhat about the making of the movie. They talked with a lot of cockers for the making of the film and a lot of their words got into the script, especially when Oates talks about birds etc.

His vow of silence in the film doesn't include the voice-over narrations of which there are many including one in this selection:"Burt was a long gaff man, but I preferred the short heels..."

I bought this movie for only ten dollars. I have watched it twice, but my friend borrowed it and he doesn't want to return it. Nothing beats Oates saying, "I've got the finest five pound chicken alive Jack, the very finest." Cockfighting is all about bragging.

I love this movie. Been in this sport for over 40 years. Love Warren Oates. Would love to have had the chance to meet him and ask him about making this movie. Just ordered this movie. Cannot wait till it arrives.
