Hey Bullfrog, thanks for posting this, brings back great memories. I can remember seeing this band at the Border Terrier in the seventies if my memory serves me correct and they were shit hot then lord knows they should have made it big. I notice your in your fifties, can you remember a band called Junk Yard Angel from Carlisle?
They were pretty good as well.

Hello again northernlad57, sorry for taking so long to reply. Sounds about right for Fred to talk the longest conversation of his life - 20 mins! Ha ha, dry as a bastard he was and I have to say I truly miss him. Can't beieve it will be 10 years in June 2010. California eh? Top one - is it hot? All the best, Jonny

Northernlad57, yeah I did find out after, was gutted. He was a top mate of mine. When he was in Holland I'd not seen him for over 8 months next thing I called his ex girlfriend's mother in Dissington (I think)? and got the shock of my life. Anyway lost a top man there. I bought some of his gear from Tommy Straughton in Cockermouth and sent his dad £1500 to pay off the loan he had to get to fly him home from Austria...fuckin truly sad man. Peace to you were you a mate of Freds?

The bass/ vocalist is Glyn Davis who sadly passed away last year due to a heart condition. baxtjon - if you didn't know Fred was killed in a car crash some years ago.

Hey awaken1001, I just saw this on YT and I knew the guitar player in this band from Cumbria UK. He was awesome, a guy called Fred Gilpin who I met at University in Salford (UK) between 1994 and 1998. What a guy and what a guitar player. From memory the keys is a guy called Steve Hatfield and the drummer is called "Tubby" who later went on to become the drum tech for the UK band The Bluetones. The bass player started the band but I can't remember his name...take it easy and hello to Canada!

Nice job, guys. I'm from another generation (and I suspect another continent) so wouldn't have seen you in your heyday, but I grew up listening to Yes and other prog-rock, and was actually in a Yes tribute myself for a while. I thought Starship Trooper was a bit weak, lacked bass among other things (though would be tricky to sing lead and riff away), but the opener was solid, and I loved your take on Don't Kill the Whale. Great vocals all around, lead and harmonies both. All the best!
Hiya mate, I always think that we were very lucky out here in West Cumbria to have a band as good as Nerves to go and watch most weekends, they were definitely above average quality for a local band, and all very down to earth friendly people, as well as top class musicians, Fred, Glynn & Alf are sadly no longer with us, but I will never forget them, & their music.
