Ashur, al, modern Qalʿat Sharqāṭ, ancient religious capital of Assyria, located on the west bank of the Tigris River in northern Iraq. The first scientific excavations there were conducted by a German expedition (1903–13) led by Walter Andrae. Ashur was a name applied to the city, to the country, and to the principal god of the ancient Assyrians.
The site was originally occupied about 2500 bce by a tribe that probably had reached the Tigris River either from Syria or from the south.

My Grandfather was in WWII Yahweh bless the Innocent lives the Jews, Albanian Christians and the Greeks, and also the Germans. I wish Assyrians and Germans combined together in WWII.

Well done brother, I saw my Grandfather at 3:02, RAB 100 Maksood Younan. I still have his field binoculars from the war, it was sent from Iraq a few years ago. My uncle has his two medals shown in the picture. I truly believe that the Levies were our last heroes, those kind of men are hard to come by now days.

Well done - I saw my grandfather in some of the pictures (The London Victory Parade)! Do you have the names of the soldiers in the pictures?
