A clip shown on ITV prior to the Interlagos 2007 race with historical title deciders. Amazingly, since then, we have had two title deciders (2007 & 2008) which should also belong in this video.
Classics.

In this video you will find
- Mansell losing out in 1986 in the final round (Adelaide) while he had things seemingly under control 3 races before the end of the season. Alain Prost came in as world champion. His second consecutive.
- Senna trying to make up for a troubled (mainly mechanical) 1989 season and thus keeping his championship hopes alive. He goes for the move inside of Alain Prost at the chicane in Suzuka, but they meet. Senna managed to race on, but was disqualified in the end for getting a push start and using the escape round. Alain Prost was champion that year. A lot of criticism followed.
- Senna deliberately takes Alain Prost off the following year at the same track (Suzuka, 1990) as a vengance action for the previous year. After complaining the day before that the pole position was on the wrong side of the track, he lost out to Alain Prost starting second, who immediately passed him for the lead. Senna was having none of it, pushed Alain Prost off, and became world champion of 1990.
- Michael Schumacher wins his first F1 championship in 1994 after a very controversial incident with title contender Damon hill. The two touched after Schumacher went of the track and hit the concrete barrier side-on. It's hard for me to explain what exactly happened. Had Damon knew about it (Schumacher hitting the wall), I'm sure he would have backed off as Schumacher was probably due to retire with a damaged car. However, I'd have to admit 1994 was dominated by Schumacher and only sheer 'luck' made Damon Hill come close (although he of course showed off some great racing like Suzuka in that year)
- Jerez 1997 saw a desperate move by Michael Schumacher for him to stop Villeneuve becoming world champion. He drove in to the side of him to damage the Williams and with the goal of it to retire (since Michel, at that point was ahead in the drivers standings). However, Schumacher got stuck in the gravel, retired and was later disqualified from the F1 world championship of 1997. A slightly damaged Villeneuve managed to race on and let the 2 McLarens pass by (with Hakkinen winning). He finished third and that was enough for him to take the (his only) world championship that year.
- Suzuka 1998 saw a well deserved F1 world championship for Mika Hakkinen. Schumacher, title contender, had to retire with a puncture which was a result of an accident of two other cars at the chicane.

Enjoy.

  • interesting how, every time when senna clearly made a mistake or did some quite unfair, how you people always defend him, while for you schumacher is always the great cheater. you are not objective... senna was as much of a "cheater" as michael (both great racers, sometimes going a bit too far)... the fact that senna died does not mean that no criticism is allowed, please remember that.

  • that's what you say beacuase it's senna ;) if it was for example schumacher, you would be more critical. i don't want to defend schumacher for his actions i just find it quite unfair, that everyone treats senna different because he's dead. there were so many incidents when senna went way too far, it was not only suzuka. and i don't condemn anyone for driving and fighting hard, cause that's what i love to see. but i don't like people to treat senna, as if he never did anything wrong

  • @christianBVB09 I agree with this completely, but I would say that while Senna taking out Prost at Suzuka in 1990 was blatantly on purpose, I also think that Prost taking out Senna the year before was just as blatantly on purpose.

Senna quite rightly would have wanted revenge on Prost and so he got it - I think though looking at his reaction after it he didn't seem to be pleased about what he had done, he almost looked a bit ashamed. He preferred to win fairly.

  • Beginning song is "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse.. very good song..

  • Both Senna and Schumacher were two of the greats. While they may have pushed it a little too far at key moments, I believe a good bit of controversy creates a great championship decider.

    2010 lacked a twist.

  • 1:14 Thanks very much hi! haha

  • Just to clear up this Senna v Prost in Suzuka thing. The head of the FIA was French, as was/is Prost. Senna got pole but was very annoyed that it meant he had to start on the dirty/slower side of the track. He said if the grid sides weren't changed for the race, and Prost was on the outside, he would not yield. This is a little different from the numerous attempts both successful and not so successful of Michael Schumacher throughout his GP career. BUT, it was certainly unsportsmanlike of Senna

  • @christianBVB09 prost was the least cheater of them all. just saying

  • Started watching F1 after Senna, but that move in Japan in 1990 should have got him disqualified from the championship

  • I dont know why people are comparing the actions of Senna in 1990 and Schumacher in 1994 in the way that they are. They both took their title rival out of the race to ensure that they won the title. Same with Prost in 89, except he couldnt take it when Senna did it back to him. Call them cheaters if you like, but its more the fact that they are clever and legendary, because lets face it, if they hadnt done it, it wouldnt have been anywhere near as classic, intresting or as memorable.

  • @MultiBikram What the fuck are you talking about. You dont know a fucking thing about Senna or even Formula 1, so do everyone a favour and fuck off.

  • @christianBVB09 Fair but Schumacher is probably regarded as the big cheat because of 1994. I say blame Flabbyo Briatore, the real big cheat in F1.
