  • Mine is 11 weeks now! He's either on or off haha! He knows sit, right and left paw, his name which is simple, but I'm happy he knows it now and stay to him means bark and whine lol! How did you train sky to lay and wait? Advice please from an experienced ridgeback owner! Also any tips on excessive biting?

  • @somuchbeautyindirt3 Regarding biting (this I now about because mine was continually attached to my ankles at first) - when he bites you simply (in a high pitch voice) - yelp! He will get the message that it hurts you and it soon puts a stop to it. To lay and wait, I used food to get her in position whilst giving it a named command such as “down” and then held her interest with food whilst saying the word stay. Hope that helps :) enjoy your puppy!

  • In the beginning thats the idea however the click must only be given when he/she has done the correct behavior, never click inappropriately or they just get confused. And then over time you phase the click sound out and reward vocally or with food. I dont use the clicker anymore unless Im trying to teaching her new trick.

  • The purpose was simply to mark the correct or desired behaviour with a noise. Dogs learn through association. So with desired behaviour like "sit" you would *click* + treat. I found it a quick and clear way to train.

  • Sky is cute! You are off to a great start. Clicker training is definately the way to go. The Skye is the limit. :-) Check out some of the things my boys can do at rogersmmr.

  • wonderful :)
