Anaglyphic 3D movie.
To view use a set of 3d glasses with the red filter over the left eye and the blue filter over the right eye.

There's a cross eye 3D version of this film here:

and you can also see some still photographs here:

26 August 2007. Locomotive 3007, a 60 year old engine originally built in Glasgow returns to the city and is put on display in Goerge Square.
The 180-tonne steam locomotive which spent its working life in South Africa is to be an exhibit in the new Riverside Transport Museum.

This is my first experiment with my new digital 3D camera setup. I usually do still 3D photography but my new sony DSC-V3's do video so I thought I'd have a try at a 3D movie.

For those who ask how it's done:
You have 2 cameras strapped together with the lenses separated by about 6.5cm just like your 2 eyes. Start filming with your 2 cameras at precisely the same moment (that's the tricky bit - I use a box of electronic tricks to do this but you could also do a bit of post production editing to get your 2 films starting at precisely the same moment) You take the 2 resulting films and combine them with a program like "Stereo Movie Maker" which is excellent and free, so no reasons not to try it.
StereoMovieMaker will allow you to chose from several different 3d formats and will render up the final movie for you.

Just have to work on holding the camera still now.

Thanks to RogerTubed for the inspiration and advice.

  • is there any video on god damn youtube to test 3d glasses those that u get on the cinema, not the lame blue and red ones thanks

  • @jazamora2006 No. Those use polarised light. They only work on projected light or fancy apparatus combining 2 images. You'll never get 'em to work on a conventional monitor.

  • what program was used to create the 3D Anaglyph video? I have adobe premier and I can't seem to get it right.

  • Stereo Movie Maker

    it's freeware.

  • although in this case I created it as a cross eye 3d movie and youtube is converting it to anaglyph on the fly. StereoMovieMaker can do many 3d formats though.

  • haha just can watch it without 3D glasses man this is no pro things i make pro 3D pics like this one:: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\Zelfgemaakte 3D Pics\metrop-reaper.jpg

    Copy to internet

wanna have more then mail me i got a couple of 40

  • That film was just a bit of fun. I am professional enough to be commissioned by the BBC to generate 3D images and what's more, I'm also professional enough to actually send them the file instead of directing them to my own harddrive :)
