The facts aren't exactly as you say, but the McKeever/Ebbets impasse allowed Walter O'Malley (who started out as a lawyer for The Brooklyn Trust Company) to do a little self-dealing. Attorney Walter Shea (a la Shea Stadium) loved the Dodgers and hated O'Malley. Shea once said that "Walter couldn't argue a parking ticket."

The Dodgers were owned for years by the Ebbets family, who never agreed on anything and were always looking to sue each other. The lawyer who handled Charles Ebbets's will and probate, who caused this state of affairs, ended up having to buy the club in order to rectify the damage he'd done. That shyster was one Walter O'Malley. One wonders who the modern-day equivalent will be who will end all the silliness in the Dodger Divorce Wars.
