u can only use it against the boss, the giant warship not against the big tentacle guy.
jus use the gauss and about 3 to 4 minigun clips depending on ur difficulty =)
u can lockon only on the bosses core or sumtin i forgot but the AI will tell u wen

Beating him is rather simple, even without cheats, find a good spot to take cover and keep firing at his head from there, he's a bit tough so just keep firing until he dies, watch out for the scouts flying around you.
as for the cheats, the console menu in crysis seemed kinda broken, so I added the commands to the difficulty setting cfg's

On the carrier, during the attack you have to go to the armory and get it there.
