@pillockbrain Me too. A dozen individual championships between them. Geoff Mardon and Bob Andrews also good New Zealand racers.

Ivan, Ronnie and Briggo. Three World Champs...
Those were the days when Kiwis ruled Speedway....
I was lucky enough to see them in the 1960's..in England.

pity solo racing died off here in NZ, more sprintcars, modifieds, stockcars although there is still an increasing interest in the area Mauger,Briggs etc came from, would be great to see more kiwi's back on the world stage emulating, briggs, moore and mauger., Hell the NZ Government should give Ivan a Knighthood instead of giving them out to rugby players and yacht racers who turn their back on their county

Zenon Plech :-)
The amount of times I've seen him knocked off or hit the fence - only to brush the first aiders aside, get a fag lit up from his mechanic and get on with the racing.
Zenon Plech - HACKNEY HAWKS LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!

What World Class English riders have we got even in this bloody era !!! :-)
-
This was in the era where Britain had no World Class riders, so we adopted Briggs before him and then Mauger because of the Commonwealth.

I've met Ivan a few times here in the homeland (NZ), He is a great down to earth guy never short of wisdom for younger riders,There is nothing he won't do for speedway. I heard that even today he could still out ride a lot of the guys racing (Non GP guys of course!)

There were two options for the ref in 73. Stop the race and allow both riders to restart or exclude Mauger for causing the accident. Essentially he chose the first option, but decided to leave the remaining rider to complete his laps.

"he was robbed by Szczakiel" Not sure if he was, but even if that were the case, the nature of the old World Finals meant that while the best guy always tended to win, there was always an outside chance that an unfancied rider would ride his luck all the way to the title.

Mauger was the greatest of all-time . Anyone who calls him a "gating tart" doesn't know speedway .
what's a "gating tart"?

It means a speedway rider who is great at winning races if he is first from the start, but if he isn't then cannot overtake.
Perhaps I should mention that I originally put this video on here because people of a forum were accusing Ivan Mauger of being such a rider.
