This song is easy and fun to play on a grand strumstick. You've probably heard Rod Stewart sing this song on the radio.

A small correction -- in this video, when I say "C chord" I meant to say "G chord." There is no C chord in this version of the song.

Also, I wasn't sure which category to put this in on YouTube: music or how-to. I decided to put it in how-to. YouTube needs a category for Music How-to

I shot this video with my $30 Logitech webcam -- the Logitech Communicate STX. A good place to buy this is buy.com

I recorded the audio separately in my iBook and then added the audio track to Windows Movie Maker.
(I used my USB Flash drive to transfer the WAV file -- after I did a bit of audio sweetening on my iBook.)

  • Thanks for asking. The lyrics for Sailing can be found fairly easily via Google. I haven't been able to track down the sheet music.

  • I appreciate the effort and I realize this is a few years old, but definitively, buy a tuner. That goes for anyone and everyone that is learning a stringed instrument. If you are somewhat new to music, get a battery operated tuner that will show you not only when the string is in tune, but whether it is sharp or flat while you are tuning. You will train your musical ear much faster and most importantly, you will be able to enjoy your music.

  • Thank you this is wonderful. Do you know how to do the music for Pony Boy by Bruce Springsteen?

  • Mate, you kicked arse. Way to show a regular bloke that a regular bloke can play, as well as appreciate. And thank you Mr McNally for motivating all us old farts to do something with our love of real music.

  • Nice, but strings sound out of tune.

  • I've heard Rod Stewart do several versions of this, One with a completly different solo as well as a slightly different B3 organ sound.... and one with out a guitar and drums.... But the second version was closer to the one that was finally released..... in terms of B3 organ and Rods voice - but it sounded weird without guitar and drums! Wonder what else Rod has in the vaults?

  • Thanks, you just have helped me to dcide to buy this... I was at Amazon, deciding, but this defenitely helped me a lot...

    Thanks from Mexico
