April 30th, 2007, was free transit day in the Bay Area of California due to the partial collapse of the San Francisco-Oakland highway. Many people took transit to work who wouldn't have otherwise. Meanwhile, tourists such as myself enjoyed free rides on BART, VTA light rail, Caltrain, and some almost free fun on the San Jose Beach Boardwalk Giant Coaster, and the Amtrak San Joaquins.
Everything was free except Amtrak, so no free Capitol Corridor. I just happened to have already purchased a ticket for the Amtrak San Joaquins that weekend, shown at the beginning.
