despite harassment from the envirofascists, beach goers and tourists enjoyed their time capturing photographs of and learning about harbor seals. the seals were so comfortable with our presence as to bring their pups to nurse among us.

@sidneyjesperson Hey Sidney....next time you join us down at the Children's Pool you should bring some diving gear. If you really love the seals you will have a great time swimming with them, they are the friendliest animals! If you type in "seals children's pool" on youtube search you can see for yourself how much us divers love seals...and how much the seals love divers!

They really don't run away? I thought they would run away if you got too close so I never tried to get closer. I'm for keeping the seals on the beach, and if I can get closer to them without scaring them, that's freaking awesome.

@JetHawk They are quite acclimated to humans it seems. We are not in their threat profile as nobody has actually ever hurt the Children's Pool seals, despite what some activists claim. That's why shared use works. The seals use the beach as they please among the humans. It's no different than "sharing" hiking trails with coyotes, parks with squirrels, etc.

@JetHawk If the seals do happen to flush into the water due to a human, it is simply a reflex response. It's not because they are scared of humans, its just something they do. The ones that do flush are probably not "resident" Children's Pool seals and come from more isolated places, hence their skittishness. Type this "Just passing through: Children’s Pool seals" into google and read an article where researchers determined more than 600 seals had used the beach over a 9 month period.
