John Bradley Takes Todd Willingham Case Discussion Behind Closed Doors

The Texas Forensic Science Commission met on Friday, January 21, 2011. The agenda of the meeting included an item on the Todd Willingham case that says they will assign the drafting of the report. The commission is examining allegations, made by fire scientists and the Innocence Project of New York, that investigators relied on bad science and poor techniques to conclude that Willingham intentionally set fire to his Corsicana home in 1991, killing his three young daughters.

The hearing started at 9:30 AM and at 9:34 the commission went into secret, closed door executive session to discuss the Todd Willingham case. When they returned after about an hour, they decided to seek an opinion from the Texas Attorney General about whether the Commission even has jurisdiction in the Todd Willingham case.

The old goal of John Bradley was to delay the report until after Rick Perry was re-elected. it looks like the new goal is to delay the report until it is too late for the Texas Legislature to take any action in response to the still as yet unwritten report on the Todd Willingham fire. Another goal is probably to prevent this case from hurting Rick Perry if he runs for president.

At this point, the U.S. Department of Justice should investigate the Todd Willingham case and the role of Texas officials leading up to the execution and in the seven years since the execution, because the Texas Forensic Science Commission's chair, who was handpicked by Rick Perry continues to impede the investigation.
