Have you thought of adding a layer of tissue paper glued down with white PVA glue before you paint. It may sound crazy but It'll look great. I do it with my wire trees.
I'll post a respose vid to show you how I do it :)

cool your Exotic tree looks super nice a whole forest on a hard board base with some alien plants mixed in too would be cool thanks for the insperation bill im gonna have a go at this too

@bensrpgpile2 Its been ages but its soled in 50 foot sections. I'd ask for twined (sp) rope:D
