A low temperature, vane Stirling engine. This runs at a temperature difference of 55 deg C and heat input of 80w. I wanted a LTD engine that would actually power something so I came up with this design. The generator is a 24v dc motor.

  • This is really nice engine. BTW do you realise the absurdity in putting electrical 80W in the engine, loosing 78 and getting 2 out to power small radio? :)

  • @Stepanfo1 Thanks. Yes, probably one of the most inefficient ways of turning 240v ac to 6v dc, ever. I originally ran the engine on 4 spirit burners, the engine sat on a stand, flywheel topmost. I wanted to acurately measure the heat quantity and temperature going in and this is easy to do with electric heating. If the heat source is free or waste heat, then efficiency is less of an issue. Really, this was a proving ground for a more powerful pressurised engine which I hope to build next year.

  • The design of the displacer is rather ingenious, seems like a really good way to utilize the regenerator. Fantastic design!
