I am quite willing to put up with the hassle of Magic Jack. For much of the last eight years I have been without a phone. I had to make a choice between having cable TV, internet, or a phone, because I could only afford one, and the internet won. Now I can afford the internet *and* a phone. I do have some quality issues, like garbled sound if my browser is loading pages, but when compared to $25 a month plus a $55 installation to get phone service from Bell, Magic Jack is the choice for me.

@CubeComputerChannel: I would agree and disagree with this. One would definitely need a capable CPU - the newer the better. I use a DEDICATED low-end netbook running a Celeron 800 with a gig of memory, and it works perfectly because that's all it does. Windows XP, MJ drivers and nothing else. So, because it's a dedicated phone "server", it works great and it's low end. If I had a bunch of background apps running and a web browser open, forget about it!

@tonydichi: There's a workaround for that. You can modify the user settings so that when a voicemail is received, you receive an email notification with the voicemail actually attached as a WAV file. I use a MJ as a business line and this works well. I check my work email first thing a voila...there's all my messages.

I could not agree with you more. Also, their tech support is a bridge to nowhere. Their useless remedial steps were repeated over and over again with zero results. Those people should be ashamed of themselves. What a ripoff.

Guess what I use it works fine never a complaint on a phone call ever had it for a month. I also don't have a old crappy computer I'm not trying to pay crysis on the computer well making phone calls. Its 40 dollars most of you crack heads spend that on your drugs on a regular basis so try it if it works for you great if it doesnt quit your wineing

@gamygaly High Speed Cable!
The phone system worked great in the beginning as my earlier video reports indicated.
The problem is over time the system seems to break down for most people, which included myself.

The below statement was posted on the MeasuredUp website;
"Magic Jack Consumer Complaint"
"When there is voice message sitting on my number I am not aware, until i access my email account. Even my device has capability of recording voice message and show indicator which are useless with this service. I am not able to respond the voice messages promptly."

Magic Jack Headlines on HubPages read as follows; " Magic Jack - The Things They Will Not Tell You Before You Buy!!, " Magic Jack - Not A Bad Gadget for Free Calling But Forget About Customer Service if a Billing Error is Made ".
Some people claim that Magic Jack works well while many others have problems. As with any product I recommend that you do your research before you buy.
