@Kaeseschweif @sigilopator Don't pretend that the fall of Constantinople at the hands of the Crusaders was an unfortunate event. The whole case is far more deeper. The whole ideology of the papist Western Europe was built upon the hostility towards Rhōmania. As long as the true Roman empire ("Byzantium") existed, the Western world couldn't feel psychological integration. Cf Contra Errores Graecorum, Charlemagne's title, the name of his empire etc.
