A bizarre encounter with a strange woman. Kind of a long story, here.
It happened a year or two ago, when I was at 7-Eleven playing with my new camcorder. Some kids came in, bought some stuff, and left, went to get into their pickup truck to leave, when suddenly 5 police cars surrounded their truck, cops jumping out, guns pointed at them. I didn't get good video of that, however, as we were quickly told by the police (via telephone) that we had to get into the back room of the store in case they had to start shooting, so we weren't in the line of fire.
That in itself would make for a fine story to tell the grandkids, but that isn't the end of it, and it's not even the most interesting part. The most interesting part came when I really got to know the people I was stuck back there with for a half-hour or so.
There was a slightly drunk regular to the store. There was a guy I already knew named Uzza. And then there was this lady.
She clearly was not operating on all cylinders. Perhaps she forgot to take her medication that day. Whatever the case, she knew I had a camera, she knew it was on and recording, and felt the need to tell me all this stuff. I've edited the most interesting bits together for your enjoyment. It starts a little slow, but just wait, she builds up momentum, and then there's no stopping her until she's done.
The end of this story, the part you don't see, comes right after the camera shuts off here. She wandered out and started yelling and throwing stuff at the police (who were arresting the kids in the truck because (a) the truck was stolen, and (b) they had a loaded pistol in the car with them. They were just doing their jobs, and she screamed that they were fascists and everything else. She got a free night in jail.
I did meet her on one other occasion when she was on some medication, and I asked her how she was doing. She was cheerful and sweet, but really dim and vague. My friend who works at the store said that she generally refused to take her medication, but whenever she spent some time in jail, they forced her to take it. He said the only time he ever saw her on her medication was right after they released her from jail.

i think she has some interesting thoughts on life and intent, but her expression seems limited by either long-term drug use or schizophrenia. she may be very intelligent. it's kind of sad to think people will probably think she's a useless idiot.

I met her once more after this event, and she was not raving as she is in this video, she was sweet and friendly... and clearly drugged out of her gourd. She doesn't seem like an idiot in any way, but she clearly is not capable of being "a useful member of society," whatever that means.
