2001 jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 litre v8 oil pressure problem, when idling has great oil pressure but drops every time accelerating. NOTE, i installed a new chrysler oil pressure sensor sending unit and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the feed back!

  • My hubby and I were driving from Phoenix to Vegas last night when that light thing came on. We were already close to Vegas so we couldn't drive back.

What we noticed was the car runs fine but when we stop the light comes on. Also, when we're driving uphill the pressure supposedly drops to zero then as soon as we drive downhill it's fine again.

We're trying to decide right now whether to take the car in to the dealers or wait till our mechanic can check it back in AZ. Most likely though base

  • @shinobigirl27 Check the oil level, if the oil levels good don't worry about it, its just a faulty oil pressure sensor like my jeep. Don't buy aftermarket sensors they do not work.

  • how did you kno that it was the sensor..? wouldnt you have assumed it were the pump..?

  • @bose3207 If it was the oil pump the engine would have been knocking and eventually blow up, but it ran perfect so i knew it was the oil pressure sensor.

  • @koabal85 Yes, it was my oil pressure sensor.

  • @Starbuds420 this is what mine is doing, but it's a 2000 4.7L v8 just like the video. Any luck with yours?

  • My gage does this, but the action is reversed! When i accelerate forward, the pressure rises; when I reverse or sit, the pressure drops. What do you mean by "knocking?"

  • @victoriouswarrior78 It was the oil pressure sensor. You can get the part and replace it easy if you know where its at and what you are doing. I just dropped mine off and got it replace plus a complete oil change for 170$ if you wanna know what your lookin at.

  • @Starbuds420 Our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee is doing the exact same as yours. Just yesterday I heard a "ding" to alert me to check the console; only then did I see "check gauges" lit up and recognized the pressure registered "zero" when idling at a stop sign. Am taking it in on Friday for a diagnosis check. The mechanic guessed it was most likely the oil sensor, but after reading these posts, I'm wondering about it all. Do you have any updates since your post?

  • So if it is covered in oil it's because the sending unit is leaking. I'm in California and paid $61.96 out the door from Jeep. Do not buy an aftermarket one heard too many bad things about them. If you do it yourself take off the oil filter and make sure you have a 27mm deep socket to remove the sensor. good luck guys

  • @ BRogers84 & Starbuds420, Mine did the same thing 2 days ago. The oil; pressure sending unit was leaking where they glue the electrical connector to the brass fitting. Good way to find out if urs is leaking is to see if your Oil filter has oil on it. The sensor is right above the oil filter

  • I have the same problem as starbud. Have u done anything to try and fix it?
