Well here is finally my Fifth Final Fantasy Piano Collections Recital Revisions. It's kinda satirical that this is my fifth vid... and on the Final Fantasy VIII CD Album, Ami is the fifth track.

Final Fantasy VIII PlayStation game was unique... because it was the first PlayStation game that would feature real life artistically proportionate characters. Although there are many mixed reviews (Some of them consider FFVIII quite poor compared to the Final Fantasy VII gem). I on the other hand hold this game extremely close to my heart. Because it was actually the first game that was my first T rating game ever to play. My mother was quite unhappy that my father bought this for me for Christmas, but who cares about that anyway, ha-ha. Well aside from that when I was first introduced to Final Fantasy it was because of a 1999 PS-X demo. I disliked it at first... being confined to "baby" games like Spryo and Crash Bandicoot (Still quite enjoyable games by the way), and I became appalled when I saw my first blood for the first time (Remember the FITHOS LUSEC WICOS VENOSEC Introduction with Squall and Seifer's intense fight?) But I kept on playing it... because it reminded me of Pokémon. Everyone knows what Pokémon is and if you are one who doesn't... well than you are inhuman. How can anyone not love that cute cuddly red cheeked Pikachu? This was my first time I became extremely attached to RPG games. RPG games take strategy and time... it takes dedication, which I think can separate itself completely from other game genres. Plus, aside from the gorgeous graphics (at that time) it was the music that truly inspired me, emotionally especially.

Anyone who has actually played Final Fantasy VIII on the PlayStation would likely remember this simple yet beautiful tune. Two years ago, when I first started this piece, I never knew what this "AMI" meant. I thought it was some Japanese translated English Kanji Characters which I could not even comprehend. But then when I brought this piece to my piano teacher, she told me that "Ami," in French means "Friend." I thought about it and then realized that Ami or "Friend" was the perfect title for the tune played in the Final Fantasy VIII Game. Ami is also similar to Amigo in Spanish; I don't understand how I never speculated the similarities.

Those of us that played the game can remember that this tune was first played when Squall and the entire gang were reminiscing about that past in Trabia Garden. This Garden or Flying School Academy belonged to Selphie Tilmitt. We can remember that this place was bombed by the Galbaldians, for Edea. Trabia Garden was filled with victims and refugees. And the entire gang who were finally together again in this worn down, dismal, and rainy place eventually remembered their childhood together. The blame of forgotten memories was towards the side effects of using Guardian Forces. Irvine Kinneas was the first one to bring up their upbringing in an orphanage together and Matron Edea. These were the forgotten memories and gave reason to how the characters personalities developed, especially Squall. He basically was extremely attached to this girl Ellone, as "Sis," who we learn has the power to send people into different times and dimensions. But as she was kidnapped, Squall undoubtedly became and felt abandoned which soon developed his rather unattached, loner personality.

"Ami" definitely portrays the beauty of the friendship and romance between the characters and the relationship/romantic development between them... Final Fantasy VIII although may seem somewhat boring to some players; I have a totally different view. I think Squall's personality seems to somewhat be similar to mine... or maybe because of playing this game I became heavily influenced by his philosophy on "true friendships." And I found his personality quite interesting and "cool." These "Lone Wolf" personalities developing wounds from the past are use quite heavily for characters in many storylines. The general norm... especially for many Japanese manga and anime. But Squall definitely sticks out and it was the first time I ever have encountered and sophisticatedly studied this "wandering soul" dilemma. Currently I am still playing Final Fantasy X... Tidus's is a bit too "Uncool" for my taste, which is probably a contradiction because online, I seem to act more silly like him (Cheerful, outgoing, and sporty) rather than Squall's stoic and detached personality. Oh well, an act is an act... Enjoy!

  • Beautiful playing man, I also really enjoyed reading your description. Subscribed :)

  • @dragonforceal Hi, thanks for subscribing! And thanks for listening, I subscribed to you back as well =D

  • Why does everyone who's filming themselves playing piano always start the film by walking over to the piano? Nothing wrong with it, just pointing it out...

  • @kickerofelves123 Mainly I think at least for me it's more faster. If I had to do cutting that would mean I would have to use a movie film editor, cut it, and render the whole video again (which reduces quality). And plus having a slow internet it takes about 2 hours just to upload 100 MB vid.

  • I seriously enjoy listening to this! Do you enjoy the piano? I realy do think that you are gifted... I have no musical talent. :) the only thing I'm good at is art random facts and complimenting... And even then I am mediocre at best..... Which is.... Silly... But you are truely amazing!!!! I really really mean that!!!!!!!

  • @physmer Haha like everything, I am jack of all master of none. Sometimes I don't have much motivation and sometimes I do. You know, where the grass is always greener on the otherside? But I still love the piano even in the bad times. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

Well perhaps you might be a very good critic, Some people are terrible at music but have a great eye to detail. So you like drawing? Do you have deviantart account?

  • is it strange that you can play a game as a kid and then listen to someone play a song from it on youtube so many years later and have it bring a tear to your eye

  • Outstanding! Man this was such a great game. I started playing it immediately after i beat FFVII, and found that i liked it JUST as much, if not more. Mostly because i was so much more emotionally involved compared to 7. The music/graphics(at the time)/relationships make this game one of a kind. Possibly the best videogame experience i've ever had.

Do you know if/where i can get this sheet music on the internet?

  • i miss balamb garden.. :(

  • beautiful, the soft sounds of rain outside your window just make this video even greater

  • @CheonHoPark Thanks man, that is very kind of you :)

  • the thunder in the background brings the bass

  • Nice version. Sounds pretty close to the S Generation version. FF VIII may be a game that divides the FF audience, but I think it has the best overall music in the entire series. Good job.

  • increiblee! felicidades por tu forma de tocar! :D
