Example comparing the performance of a couple of small shortwave broadcast receivers; a Grundig G6 and Radio Shack DX397. Both receivers use only their short telescopic whip antennas in this demonstration. Radio Australia currently has a program on 9580 kHz in the mornings, Chicago time~ 0500 to 0600 hrs ~ that explore current events in Australia. Every morning there is a different topic. At end of video, both receivers are tuned to RHC, Radio Habana Cuba on 9600kHz,

  • I was thinking about buying the Grundig 350, but I got the G6 because it is smaller than the 350 and offers more bands.

  • I think you made a good choice. The G6 also has a BFO (beat frequency oscillator) which will allow you to recieve SSB (single side band) used by amateur radio operators and shortwave SSB voice communications used by international aircraft. The 350 won't receive SSB.

  • I have a Grundig YB500 with broken whip but still plays good for it's size(Vertical design)made in 1993 in Portugal.Does the G6 have Syncro Detection like that on the G3?I am thinking of getting a new Grundig for Xmas!Brainy,Brainman Media

  • I was torn between the g6 and the s350. i choose the g6 do u think tis was a bad choice

  • Urg. Bad het on RAI on the analog.

I like the G6, but the G5 outdoes it in sensitivity and selectivity. The S350DL has the best sound of the three.

    Radios are cool.

  • I used to have a Radio Shack DX-397, possibly one of the better radios that Radio shack as made. I got one as a birthday gift, but since then has outlived its usefulness. I now own a Eton E5, which I think it is the best SW radio that I ever owned. Reception and audio quality on the E5 is excellent and I only paid $70 for it at Circuit City (when it was still opened for business).

  • found a G6 for 60.00 I thik I'll buy it

  • To me the DX-397 has more natural sounding audio. I'll bet the G6 has better selectivity though for tight band conditions.

  • I listened closely and I would have to say the Grundig G6 sounds better the then radio shack, the audio is cleaner and less distorted on the G6 then the radio shack, I just saw the G6 at radio shack, what an am inpressive radio for it's size!

Thanks for the video... But the G6 Wins this contest.

  • The G6 also receives the entire general coverage band from 150-29999, which includes longwave, AM broadcast, shortwave broadcast, & Amateur HF.
