  • is this a continuous treatment for the life of the bird?

  • Freddie received treatment for 28 months. I am happy to report that we just took her off the nebulized medication a few weeks ago and she is doing well. She is still receiving oral voriconazole but appears to be disease free.

  • How did she get it?

  • She was exposed in an incubator when she was very young. The incubator did not allow for thorough cleaning and the fungus grew inside it unknown to us. Bird owners need to be careful when using brooders and incubators. If the incubator doesn't open up completely to allow for thorough cleaning and disinfecting, it should not be used.
