From Wiki:
"Patches", (first recorded by Chairmen of the Board), was a UK number 2 and a U.S. number 4 in 1970, and was nominated for a Grammy in 1972. This disc sold over one million copies, and received a gold disc awarded by the R.I.A.A. in September 1970, just two months after its release. It was Carter's third million seller.

  • young black men theirs a message in this song

  • My moms was my "Patches"! She came from dirt to Chicago and birthed us kids. She worked hard to keep a roof over our heads despite all the odds against her. She passed on in June 1994, but her memory will live on through my behavior and the way I treat others. Peace be unto you mom...Love You and Miss You!

  • i remember this song when i was 8 awesome

  • You Yanks are so obsessive! this is a great song it crosses boarders and teaches you about life outside your minimal universe try opening your mind after all just because its a world series doesnt mean its about about base ball in one country! come to England or better still send your teachers or your president and they might learn its not just about one nation one people its about growing the people to become one planet, oh by the way this isnt a political dig personally its about the music!

  • @Leo55BabyBoomer You just send a tear streaming down my cheek.Your mom sounded like a amazing woman.

  • damn that old school 45 must of seen some days

  • @bamafant92 No way! Clarence's version is tops but Jerry Reed's version is a very close second. Alabama's version is just... not good. Sorry.

  • As if the average 13 year old white boy is anymore of a grown man...working the fields as a sharecropper is something that was very common for black males (regardless of age) to do post-slavery up until the 1960s. I'm forty years old and all I have heard is what "black men don't do". It is past time to stop raising black boys to think they are bad by nature. The theory of they 'need a lesson' from someone who claims to be better or smarter than they are has failed three generations now.

  • the vinyl makes it so sweet

  • I am a white guy and this song is awesome
