John Bowsher describes the engineering required to realize Levitated Mass, a monumental sculpture by artist Michael Heizer. Levitated Mass will be completed this fall, and is located at the north end of the Resnick Paviion at LACMA.
Within this project my question is. Have they given ANY thought on the shadows it will cast at different times of the day to REALLY allow the stone it's right to make an appeal to it's new surroundings or to merely keep it captive on it's new foundation. The levitation part Ido in fact fully understand, However please remember this it is a grain sand in the universe and to move it,place it and position it carelessly would be a disaster to a critical eye indeed.
