It's a university filled with students that don't have an objective past graduation, except in a few majors. Astronomy being one. Mainly they are going to the university to be students, usually not leaders in any one field.

UCSC is more unconventional than most Universities. It has a very strong liberal bent. To be moderatly excentric is just fine.

Be sure to get a good tour and orientation, a great counselor and staff at the front desk. Lacking any of these can ruin your experience. On the first week, really pay attention to the professor to find out if this is a professor that deserves to be here or should work at a Jr. High school. Really. Some are fantastic. But not all.

@phion12 Hey this is Shiftfallout on an alternate account. Honestly, avoid the typical university if you can. UCSC, aside from being a beautiful campus, is not really a great educational facility. It specializes more in liberal training (preaching and not teaching) and pointless academia. My advice to you is to get a degree and an education that actually gives back a skill set. Go to a trade school that specializes in a specific field. It will cost less and give you 100 times more in return.
