  • she danced it okay, i can tell that this is when she first started principle roles.I DETEST the change in choreography for the adagio.When you change the choregraphy it should improve, not decrease dramatically,it took away from it.This looks to be like a graduation performance.Andrew seems very young. I also really disliked her preparations for pirouttes. Im sure there will be someone to disagree with me but this is my opinion. She really has improved. She doesn't look principle material here.

  • @bwoodsfinest So there is no change ... the choreography respects the original notation of the ballet! Also the costumes and set design, are made following the original sketches of 1890! ;)

  • @rudik1988 - actually, this production DOES NOT respect the original notation. Vikharev was forced to make numerous compromises with the complaining Mariinsky dancers & authorities. The notation reflects how Petipa originally staged the Pas in this clip: as a Pas de Quatre for Aurora, Desire & the Gold & Silver fairies.

  • @mrlopez2681 thank you mrlopez!! I thought it was the original version, as it stands in what was realized for the first time in 1890! So, is not exactly the Sleeping Beauty of 1890? What compromises had to face Vikharev?

  • @rudik1988 - he had to make MANY compromises, many of which I detail in my upload of the reconstruction (go to my channel, I uploaded the entire production). The Mariinsky actually wants to continue believing that their Soviet-revised productions are authentic Petipa, when they are not (i.e. "Bayadere", "Beauty", "Raymonda", "Paquita" Grand pas, etc.). These prodctions are merely the choreography of Sergeyev, Dudinskaya & Vaganova, among others.

  • @mrlopez2681 this is obvious! In fact, the choreography seems to me almost the same as the other versions, except for the costumes and scenery, of course! I've seen ur videos many times, because the version of Vikharev is one of my favorites!

    I appreciate ur wonderful work and I admire your philological research of the history of the ballet, mrlopez! If I may, I'd like to know what books you read about the ballets and several version of the Petipa ballets! Write me privately if you want ....

    i have no problem with the cosumes...i actually found that aspect quite refreshing...The notations that i saw that was written as the "original" was wrong then.So i retract my statement since my statement was incorrect. Since this is the original choregraphy, i much prefer the adjustments made. Thanks for the post though. I forgot to say that earlier. I enjoy watching different variations of all ballets whether or not i like them.

  • @bwoodsfinest you are absolutely right ...It 's the same impression that I had the first time I've looked at this video! So... You must know that in this choreography, there is no change! It's only later, or better, the versions that we know, to be different, because this version of Sergei Vikharev (in repertoire of the Mariinsky) is the transposition of the true "Belle au Bois Dormant", exactly how it was realized for the first time at the Mariinsky in 1890!
