Hi there! My name is Verónica; I am a member of the BA Plus staff and now I will teach you some basic rules of pronunciation in Spanish.

Ok, lets go: first we have the letter H or hache in Spanish. This sound is always silent, with no exception, so some examples are: Hola, Hablar, Alcohol.
Then, we have the combination of letters C + H, as in Che, Chau, Chile.
Then, we have the letter J or jota in Spanish. This letter is pronounced always the same, so: Japón, Jueves, Jirafa.

The Spanish letter Ñ is a combination of N+ I, the vowel I (/i/ in Spanish) so the sound is NI. Some examples are: Año, Mañana, Niño.
Finally, in Spanish its very important to distinguish between R and double R. The first one is weaker and the second one is stronger. In order to perform this sound, you have to touch with your tongue the upper palate. So, some examples: Pero and Perro; Pero means but and Perro means dog. Para and Parra, Caro and Carro.
Ok, if you find this hard I can tell you, for sure, that its only a matter of practice! I say bye for now and Im really looking forward to keep on practicing this with you at B.A. Plus!

  • But the letter 'H' does have exceptions. For example hielo (ice) or huevo (egg). It;s pronounced as a y or a w, respectively :)

Pero la hache si tiene excepciones. Por ejemplo, con las palabras hielo y huevo.

  • Te amo

  • Yo participo en un intercambio a España. Tengo que aprender más Español antes que voy a España, ¡porque mi Español es horrible! :x

Creo que toda la gente no va a entender que lo digo.. hablo muy despacio y no puedo pronunciar el "rr" :o

  • men, digo lo mismo pero ella hace que tenga sueños humedos.

  • @matheus85202 por eso me gusta la gente brasileña =)

  • I heard someone pronouce ll as j and even ly. And sometimes in songs i dont hear the s in some words like mas

  • Whenever I talk to people with English as a secondary language, I feel like they are having a hard time trying to piece together what they want to say (even her, sometimes) So I want to learn : Spanish, French, German, Swedish. That order because French is similar to Spanish, German is similar to french (but not Spanish) and Swedish I think is similar to German.

But I think it is impossible to be 100% fluent in a foreign language, because of how many other factors play into it.

  • @lucifaitre Está muy buena. Or está muy rica.
