@dartagnan926 The reason why is that unless you mix in flashy graphics and booming intros, conservatism can't be sold. When people drone on like these two airbags did for an hour, it is easy to see how flimsy their "arguments" are. Just two pompous asses stroking each others egos.
Faux News found the formula that sells their ideology, and that's "Fear" plain and simple. Whip people up into a frenzy about the evil "libruls" and homos and communists and we'll sell a lot of commercial spots.

@djeskey1 Their entire argument seems to be, "Only the opposition has ulterior motives, our intents are pure." Puh-lease, every criminal in jail uses that line.
-
@djeskey1 Nice try. Even if you were as eloquent as the two windbags you wouldn't be able to get away with that lie.
These idiots spent an entire hour trying to convince everyone that only the left has an ideology. Absolutely ridiculous. No modern day political scientist buys that bullshit argument. These guys were able to get away with this line of crap back then because people were easier to fool back then. After all, they voted in a "B" actor for President didn't they?

@FlabbyFlabberton Thats very idealistic of you. Unfortunately for the common man, Platos Republic is a dream, and like what was discussed earlier in this dialogue, there is a human nature that we must accomodate to, and that is greed.

Not against the rich that made themselves honestly.
But using or paying off government for policy to Make your business into BIG BUSINESS is Wrong.
Rich poor does not matter- Bribery and stealing should house both in jail, in the same cells.

That's because conservatism is not an ideology. Ideology are secular forms of religion that seek to achieve utopia here on earth. Conservatism rests on a trascendent moral order, essentially the Judeo-Christian tradition of morality as well as virtues communicated by ancient philosophers. Conservatism understands that man is fallen and there is an afterlife. Thus, we don't try to achieve utopia here on earth, but try to encourage liberty within the context of a virtuous society.

His conception of ideology seems to preclude conservatism from consideration, because of the absence of an 'oppressor'. But what then is it based upon if not system of self-sustaining ideas that include some ideas and exclude others? Would a more appropriate name be 'traditionalism' in that questions about how we are supposed to live are decided on the basis of past decisions, like precedent in common law (a generalisation about the law I know)?
-
Ugh... fine... lie to yourself. Again - they live a life of privilege and are confronted with whiners which seems somewhat a different sort of oppression than the one they are associating with the ideologue. Oppressing the west? I think ideologues are an intra-societal phenomenon.

haha I think you need to take your own advice. You completely missed my point. Listen to the other videos and write down what Sobran defines as an "ideologue". One of his "criterion" is that ideologues always claim oppression. Now to me it sounds as if Sobran and Buckley both believe "ideologues" are oppressing the West with their views, which suggests both of them fulfill at least one of the criterion. Get it?
A libbo demtard? Again you're showing your bias. To be honest I hold both republican and democrat politicians in equal disdain, although there has been exceptions on both sides. You're the only one who has shown clear signs of partisanship here my friend. I've read Capital and the manifesto, and also Marx's personal letters. I think it's fair to say Marx was genuine in his intent. There is little to suggest Marx sought power. Perhaps you can prove otherwise?

It's quite sad television shows of this caliber no longer exist. It would seem we've sunk to the lowest common denominator. I fear how much lower television will sink before it reaches its absolute trough.
