  • what does this key do? is it just a light

  • @sharef93 It's a car key. It opens the doors and stars the car when used properly. ;-) The light is just an indicator for a signal being transmitted to the electric door locks. No light = no signal sent, probably due to a flat battery.

  • @youcratube i know its a key im not challenged but all the vw's iv owned never had that key

  • @sharef93 It was not my intention to impy you are challenged. If that´s the impression I gave, I´m sorry. I know VW have different types of keys; I also have one "normal looking" spare key without the locking remote, and I´ve seen the square "block" type keys with the fold-in key-blade.

About short-cirquiting the board - that won´t be a problem, since there is no current running when the battery is flat. If in doubt, just use a plastic tool. The cirquitry is pretty simple and rugged, though.

  • Hi...do you know if theres a way to remove the actal key bit from the plasticy bit...want to put the key into a flip style key so wondered if i was able to remove the key from the plastic bit. Thank you

  • I think these keys use two batteries (at least mine did). You just changed the top one, although there may be another one under the thin contact layer.

  • Well this helped me out i feel very stupid....i have been having the same problem with it being dead and not Transmitting to my jetta thank you, Corey.

  • GREAT VIDEO,I JUST DONE THIS SAME ON MY SEAT LEON.

  • With the battery so close to circuit board components, I'd suggest it isn't a good idea to pry out a battery with a metal object - in this case a screwdriver! Danger of a possible short circuit to circuit board components.

  • cheers
