From my grandparents' home movies. Footage shot some time from 1927 on. No guarantee the lake scene that follows is nearby.

From Linda Palmieri, Town Historian and Curator of the Stillwater Blockhouse:
Yes that is the Stillwater Blockhouse. They are great pictures. It was built in 1927 . It is made out out buildings and barns from the battle area. In these pictures it is sitting in the Saratoga National Historical Park, stop 2. And yes, the little white house was Gen. Poor headquarters where Gen. Arnold stayed. And that looks like the good old Hudson River which flows right by the park. The Blockhouse was removed from the Battlefield in 1975. It now sits in the heart of the Village of Stillwater, New York. It is a museum , just like it use to be. I am the curator. We open Memorial Day weekend and close Labor day weekend. We are open Wed. Thru Sunday , 12 to 4:00 Please if you are in the area please stop in.

  • Great movie!..this looks like it could be the Stillwater Block house just outside Saratoga Springs NY. and the lake could be nearby Saratoga Lake..hope this helps

  • Thanks. This one is a real mystery to me so good info like this is much appreciated.

  • I don't think there is a blockhouse like this at Fort Ticonderoga. Also, in the 20s and 30s large scale restoration was underway there and it doesn't seem evident in the film. If the sign by the house says "Gen. Arnold's HQ" it could be anywhere from the Kennebec River, to Quebec, to the Champlain valley, to Saratoga, to West Point. The blockhouse looks a little like Ft. Halifax in Winslow, ME - the original was lost in a flood a few years ago but has been rebuilt. Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you. Who should I write to find out more about where this might be?

    Cheers,

    John L

  • This is the Blockhouse on the Saratoga Battlefield, in place from 1927 until the late 1950s. It was moved to the Village of Stillwater, NY and is now a local history museum. I am the Curator at Saratoga National Historical Park, and would love a copy of this film for the park's archives.
